I can remember vividly my 2 year old nicely coloring as I put away my groceries. I swear I turned around for 2 minutes and when I turned around there was purple marker all over the wall, floor and my daughters arms. How could this happen in just a few short minutes? How is it possible that I didn’t notice? How did she think this was okay?
It’s hard being a mom and doing all the things right. Getting kids to school on time. Having them socialized enough. Getting active activities done. Making sure they don’t color on themselves. Making sure they eat healthy.
I can tell you being a busy mom it is so hard to make sure my kids are always doing the right things. I feel like as moms we put so much pressure on ourselves to provide as much perfection as possible, when we really should just focus on being a good enough mom. Being a mom of 3 girls 11 years, 6 years and 3 years and I have come to this good enough realization over the years.
One of the things that I have come to be okay with(this took me a LONG TIME) was it’s ok if your house is messy. Toys all over the floor is not a big deal. Your kids are just going to pour them all over the floor right after you clean them up anyways. One day when the toys are all gone you are going to want them back and your kids will be big. Try your best to embrace the mess as all of us are going through it.
We don’t take a class in College or University that prepares us for having kids and becoming a mom. We are always in this state of constant learning and growing as a mom and parent. We test things and if they don’t work we try something else. We are all learning so go easy on yourself!
More in depth on above but you really don’t know what you don’t know. Go easy on yourself if you didn’t swaddle your kids, or you didn’t even know baby led weaning was a thing. I remember taking home my first baby and thinking there was only one way to breastfeed(cross cradle!) and after a bit I realized that there were so many ways to nurse! You don’t know what you don’t know until you know it so give yourself grace.
Your kids will never starve themselves. They will eat. They might not eat or choose the best choices but sometimes you just have to roll with it. Fruit gummies and milk was life for my youngest for the longest time and I just went with it. Sometimes to avoid tantrums it was all she would eat. Thank goodness for allKiDz Multivitamin gummies and Probiotics that I could just hide in her gummy pack. One day they will find their way and make good food choices as they see you doing the same.
The long and the short of it is you are doing a great job. You are a great mom and no matter if you have toys on the floor, kids are eating gummies all the time or don’t know everything you are doing great.
Take it from me. I am still learning after 12 years of parenting. To be honest a little marker on the walls is the least of our worries. Let’s choose together to be good enough moms for our kids and leave the idea of the perfect mom in the past.
